Impromptu Hoop Playshop near Richmond, VA this Saturday

Richmond friends I am coming to Richmond on Saturday, February 2nd and the kind folks at Sycamore Rouge Theater in Petersburg, just outside Richmond, have offered to let me use their beautiful theater with great high ceilings to teach a couple of hoop classes while I’m there. Please come and tell your friends. Here is a description of the classes:2:00-4:00 pm: Fundamentals of Hoopdance – The building blocks of posture, breathing, utilizing power stance, range of motion and exploration of armwork, handwork & fingerwork, footwork, traveling steps, turns and spins. We will also explore off-body hand hooping concepts such as stalls, breaks, reverses, flowers, and isolations.

4:00 – 6:00 pm: Contact Rolls and Tosses & Integrating Dance into Hooping. We will move between a variety of contact rolls on the hands, arms, chest and back and explore a variety of tosses from both on and off the body. We will also touch on Integrating Dance. Dance is about story-telling with the body so we will also explore dance concepts such a hand work, footwork, traveling steps and spins, and much more. The idea is to give you tools that you can add to your hoopdance to grow your improvisational dance over time.

Each two-hour playshop is $30 or take them both for $50 . Bring a notebook! We share a lot of information and recording epiphanies can help us remember them. If you have a video camera, you may want to videotape the three minute review at the end of each class also.

NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED!
Serious business, whatever your experience level, including none, Come! You will learn so much.

NO HOOP REQUIRED!
I will have a variety of hoops you may borrow. I also sell custom made hoops. They are $35 for one or $60 for two.

DRESS FOR SUCCESS!
Natural fiber, form-fitting clothes work best for hooping. Cotton, leather, wool, silk, hemp, or bamboo clothes all grip the hoop. Skin grips the hoop best of all so leaving strategically exposed skin on the arms, waist or thighs can be helpful. Non-natural fiber clothing is slippery and a sliding hoop is almost impossible to hoop with!
